How to Choose the Right School!

Many people make the mistake of signing up at the first martial arts school they find. Proximity and cost are important, but not the only factors.

This choice can be an important decision, so give it the time it deserves. Before you begin visiting schools in your neighborhood and beyond, get all the facts.

We hope the informational guidelines's we provide below will help you in your search and making the decision to study martial arts.

Determine Your Goals

Ask yourself "Why might I want to or have my child pursue martial arts training?" Do you know someone who raves about a great martial arts school? Are you seeking:

• Increased Self Extreme
• Increased Self Confidence
• Better Focus
• Fitness

• Self Defense
• Earn Black Belt
• Better Grades
• Self Discipline

• Help with ADD/ADHD
• Stress Relief
• Meet New Friends

Martial arts training can satisfy many of these goals, but it takes research and forethought in order to find the right school to satisfy your needs. If this is your first exposure to martial arts, be open to the possibility that you may find a school best suited for you that does not meet all of your goals. This will be a learning experience, so be open and practical.

Reputable martial arts schools will gladly answer any of your questions.Get On the Phone

A reputable martial arts school will be glad to answer any questions (including price) you might have over the telephone. If they won't - move on! They should have information available to send you for your review.

The questions to ask are:

  1. What style do you teach (It's advisable not to put heavy emphasis on style.)
  2. When do you offer classes?
  3. How many classes per week can I attend?
  4. Do children and adults train separately?
  5. What is the class size?
  6. Who teaches the class?
  7. Do I have to sign a contract?
  8. Do you charge a testing fee?
  9. What are your rates?
  10. Do you offer a family discount? If so, how much?

While this list is by no means complete it will give you lots of thought starters for what is important to you when choosing a school. Be certain to choose a school where you can attend a minimim of twice per week.
